Kaiju Candy Store Established in 2022

Kaiju Candy Store is the brain child of Dmitri Wood.  A true connoisseur of candy and monsters of all kinds.

The Kaiju Candy Store Origin Story
One holiday season years ago, I didn’t have enough money to buy gifts for everyone on my Christmas list. While brainstorming what to do about it, a funny childhood memory of my older brother unexpectedly popped into my head. During the summer of ’95 while camping, I was trying to wake him up and said, “Hey, do you want some marshmallows?” Without waking up from his sleepy trance he responded, “Mmmmm… marshmallows….” and I immediately burst out into laughter. For some reason this was absolutely hilarious to me and those words burned into my memory. So when this thought once again popped into my noggin while brainstorming for affordable gifts, I thought, “Thats it! Everyone likes marshamallows and how hard can it be to make?” That year I learned how to make marshmallows and gifted everyone an assortment of vanilla, peppermint, coconut and chocolate dipped mallows. To say the least, the mallows were a massive hit and it became my annual gift from that point forward.

One day, approaching the holidays, I was driving home while sipping on a taro milk tea and I had an epiphany… taro would make a perfect marshmallow flavor! Luckily for me, I already had some taro flavoring on hand from when I previously made boba at home. That first time I made it I was shocked at how much it exceeded my expectations. That year everyone on my chirstmas list recieved taro mallows. The response was overwhelmingly positive and it was clear that taro was the most popular marshmallow flavor I had made to date.

With the popularity of my marshmallows being what they were and with my life long commitment to discovering exotic flavors and foreign snacks, I decided to start a candy business. My original idea was to source exotic and hard to find treats from around the world as well as manufacture my own candy in order to curate assorted snack boxes for sale. The name I originally chose for the company was Candy Mountain, which I was surprised to initially find still available. Unfortunately I dragged my feet and took too long to register the name and someone else registered it mere days before I attempted to take the leap. Around that same time I also decided to partner with my best friend, Zach, with the hopes of sharing the workload. While brainstorming together on a new business name, I looked over to my shelf of collectible figures and saw my vintage Godzilla figure holding an ice cream cone… and I blurted out, “Kaiju! Kaiju Candy Store!” From that name, we thought it would only make sense for our logo to be a kaiju made of candy… and have him taking a spiteful bite out of Candy Mountain. Zach drew up the rough sketch and I transformed the sketch into the polished digital logo you see today.

After some time it became apparent that it wasnt practical for me to continue sourcing international and exotic snacks especially since there were already other companies that were already doing it far better than I ever could. At that point I decided it was in my best interest just to focus on making the best hand made candy I possibly could. Since then, I’ve constantly been honing my candy making skills and knowledge of flavors. It is my personal mission to find the wildest and tastiest flavors you never knew existed and if there is a better way to do things thats how I want to do it.

Yes. Our candy can be made in just about any color or shape you can imagine.

It may take additional time to locate a specific shaped mold or flavor if needed. Currently I have access to a local specialty shop with hundreds of candy molds on hand, if I cant find a good mold there, I may need to order one online. As a final option, if the budget and time permits, we are capable of making our own one-of-a-kind food grade silicone molds by hand.
